More than two thousand buses in the country have been checked by the Land Transport Authority in the past two weeks to ensure all drivers and passengers comply with issuance and the production of tickets upon demand by LTA officers.

The campaign was launched on the 6th of this month.

The issuance of Traffic Infringement Notice for Bus Ticketing started on Tuesday this week.

LTA Spokesperson, Doreen Narayan said 21 drivers were booked as of Thursday, for failure to issue tickets to passengers.

She said a number of passengers have also been booked by LTA officers for failing to produce the ticket upon demand.

According to LTA the aim of this campaign is to maintain bus fare at an affordable level and more importantly to avoid any future fare increase.

LTA has warned that anyone who fails to produce the ticket will pay a fixed penalty of $50 and maximum $500 or 3 months imprisonment.
