The Government's Tropical Cyclone rehabilitation work will continue in the eastern and northern divisions from next year with $1 million set aside.

The Permanent Secretary for the Provincial Development Ministry, Colonel Manasa Vaniqi said the work will begin as early as next month.

He said the first phase of rehabilitation work saw 78 houses completed in Vanuabalavu while 20 houses were constructed in Salia Village on Nayau, Lau.

He said works for Salia and Nayau were done by the RFMF engineers, who had completed about 10 houses and renovated 30 structures while a total of 69 houses had been completed in the Northern Division with Udu, Tawake and other parts of Vanua Levu to be cleared this week.

He said a few carpenters are still on the island to complete the finishing touches before they return to Suva this week.

Col Vaniqi added that the Government purchased building materials to be transported to outer islands and some parts of Lomaiviti this year and the same will be done again in January.

The cost for the first phase of rehabilitation work was $3.3 million.
