This is the only time of the year when thousands of goats are shipped into Viti Levu from the north for sale for the Christmas pot and farmers from Dreketi and Bua are confident that goat sales will pick up from today.

Fijivillage news witnessed long lines beside the road sides where goats are being sold in Nasinu as people bargained for better prices.

We spoke to some farmers who have spent more than a thousand dollars to bring goats from Vanua Levu to sell it in Suva.

One farmer Mohammad Feroz who was selling goats near Bayley bridge said the sale has been down compared to the last few years and people are looking for goats ranging from $150 to $180.

He said majority of the goats he brought are priced more than $250.

Another farmer who wished to remain anonymous said they brought thirty six goats this week and sold fourteen of them.

The price of goats he was selling ranged from $230 to $320.

He further added that close to one thousand five hundred dollars was spent in bringing these goats to Suva and prices have gone down compared to last year.

He said if the goats are not sold by today then he will have to leave it with his relatives in Navua and return home with whatever he manages to earn.
