Girls between the ages of 12 to 18 years are mostly targeted for human trafficking within Fiji.
This is according to the Human Trafficking Unit.
Speaking at the Police Symposium in Nasova, CID officer Aminiasi Cula said the market for young girls is between Suva and Nadi.
He said according to the current trend, police have found out that clients are requesting for young girls on the streets.
He reveals that these illegal operations are beng conducted in some massage parlors, hotels, motels, apartments, and even some homes.
He added there were two successful prosecutions of human trafficking cases since the unit was sent up in 2009.
In a recent case, four Asian men were found guilty of human trafficking.
Phanat Laojindamanee, Lum Bing, Zhang Yong and Jason Zhong were charged with six counts of aggravated trafficking in person, domestic trafficking in persons and sexual servitude.
Laojindamanee and Lum Bing have been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.
Zhang Yong has been sentenced to 9 years while Jason Zhong has been sentenced to 11 years 9 months.
