The Fiji Sugar Corporation has stressed that the $80 per tonne cane payment to farmers last month was based on hard work from the various stakeholders, and the improvement of cane and mills.
According to FSC, another contributing factor was increased prices of raw sugar which they managed to negotiate.
FSC chairman Abdul Khan said they received no subsidies from the government or the European Union.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister and Minister for Sugar Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama earlier highlighted that although the price of raw sugar on the international market is volatile, with a record payment this year and a high price secured for next year, they are beginning to see stability and growth reenter the Fijian sugar industry.
