The Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has thanked the members of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces for their service to the country.
As the Commander of RFMF, he commended soldiers during the last military parade for 2010 held at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks this morning and also presented meritorious award medals to 73 recipients during the parade.
Commodore Bainimarama acknowledged the service of officers at peacekeeping missions in Sudan, East Timor, Iraq and Sinai.
Speaking in Fijian, Commodore Bainimarama urged unit commanders and administration officers to ensure all serving officers were recognised for their work and rewarded accordingly.
He said that there has been a delay of awarding these medals to officers and for some age is catching up quickly therefore there is a need to speed up the processes and ensure soldiers are recognised for their service to the country.
While commending all medal recipients for their loyalty, dedication and hard work he mentioned that credit should also be given to famliy members, spouses, parents and everyone who have contributed to their success and achievements.
Commodore Bainimarama paid tribute to those who have passed on in 2010 during their course of service and those who have retired from active duties for their contribution to the force and to the country.
However, he urged members of the military to be mindful of the Commander's Intent as guideline to their actions and conduct and stressed the importance of their role in maintaining order and the rule of law in Fiji.
Commodore Bainimarama's comments came after he warned military officers of their general conduct during the festive season.
