Maria Beranadeta maybe new to the Fiji Secondary School athletics environment but she will be carrying the hopes for the students of Waidina Secondary School in this year’s Coca-Cola Games.
Beranadeta set a new record in the Girls Open Grade of 1500 metres at the Suva Zone 1 clocking the time of 5 min 12 seconds breaking Noela Taqai’s record of 5 min 19secs.
The 14-year-old said she will be running for her school, her family and Naitasiri as a whole.
Beranadeta’s main competitors are Mereseini Naidau of Jasper Williams High School, Ana Maria of Vaturova Koroalau Secondary School and Maopa Tabualovoni of Adi Cakobau School.
Meanwhile, secondary school students in Taveuni will be part of history today as they will for the first time ever take part in the Coca-Cola Games national torch relay.
Niusawa High school, Holy Cross College, Bucalevu Secondary and South Taveuni Secondary school will be part of this historical event today.
Last week secondary schools in Ovalau and Kadavu also took part in the torch relay for the first time ever.
Meanwhile, the Coca-Cola Games tickets are already on sale at the games office at McGregor Road in Suva.
Grandstand tickets are $30 for both days, concrete seating on the embankment is $12 a day the grass is $10 a day.
The Coca-Cola Games starts next Friday at the ANZ Stadium.
