The new Acting National Secretary of the Fiji Trades Union Congress Rajeshwar Singh said the union is not supporting any political party.
Singh said the FTUC had formed and sponsored the People’s Democratic Party but soon after the formation, the Political Parties Decree came out which stated that trade unionists cannot be involved in politics.
However, he confirmed that the PDP office is still situated in the FTUC building in Suva.
Singh said PDP is paying rent and there is nothing stopping them from allowing the party to rent the office space.
When asked, Singh said he does not know how much is paid in rent as he has just taken up office.
Singh said he will be holding FTUC’s Acting National Secretary’s position until the next Pioneer Delegates Conference which could be held by the end of this year.
