A former senior legal officer for Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority Faranisese Gavidi charged with one count of abuse of office today appeared before Suva Magistrate Kaweendra Nanayankara.
It is alleged that on 9th April last year, while employed at FIRCA, Gavidi allegedly did an arbitrary act by providing legal opinion which was not supported by evidence available to her and which supported wrongful processing of an application for refund of VAT of accusation of new dwelling house of Ashwin Kumar Jogia, an act which was prejudicial to the rights of FIRCA.
Gavidi was represented by lawyer Aca Rayawa.
Her plea was deferred and charges were not read in court today.
Gavidi has been bailed with a surety of $5000 and has been ordered to surrender all travel documents and report to FICAC once a week.
The matter has been transferred to the high court and will be called on 4th February next year.
