About 120 women in Naroi Moala Lau have become financially independent following an establishment of a poultry farm in April this year.
Naroi Women's Group Assistant leader, Litea Draunidalo said the farm which was set up through the assistance provided by the Social Welfare Ministry also addresses the issue of food security in the village adding that they are now relying less on the frozen chickens.
She said they had to rely on the nearby shops for frozen chicken and the stock would only last for a few days.
Meanwhile, 15 poultry projects have been identified by the Social Welfare Ministry with a budgetary allocation of $200,000.
