The Social Welfare Child Protection allowance has now been increased from $60 to $100 per child, per month.
Minister for Social Welfare Dr Jiko Luveni said the $40 increase is to ensure that quality care and protection are provided to children in Fiji, as the previous allowance was not adequate in relation to responsibilities of child care.
Dr Luveni said the increase is also in line with the increasing cost of living in Fiji.
Meanwhile the Ministry currently provides allowances for nine residential institutions which accommodate children around Fiji.
