The Health Ministry will now be able to receive details of outbreak of any disease from any Nursing station or Health Center around the country much quicker with assistance of mobile phone technology which was launched yesterday.
National Advisor Communicable Diseases Dr Eric Rafai confirmed the World Health Organization funded a successful pilot project which was conducted for about a month using about 10 mobile phones.
He said the project was successful and now more than 30 mobile phones will be distributed to Health Centers and Nursing stations.
Meanwhile, WHO staff Akanisi Dawanavesi who works closely with the Health Ministry said the assistance was a timely one.
A group of Divisional and Sub-divisional Medical Officers Divisional Lab Technicians and Medical officers are attending a National Training on Laboratory and Syndromic Disease Surveillance at the Southern Cross Hotel in Suva.
