Military will not take part in Constitution Commission seminar

The military confirms that it will not take part in a seminar organized by the Constitution Commission and the Fiji National University on the transition from military rule to democratic governance next week.

RFMF Land Force Commander, Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga said the Military Council will soon be making a formal submission on behalf of the RFMF to the Constitution Commission.

Colonel Tikoitoga said the submission will address among other things the formation of the government after 2014.

Colonel Tikoitoga said the military does not believe that it is appropriate for the RFMF to take part in a public forum of this nature.

He said the Military Council will make its submission and then wait like the rest of the country for the constitutional process to take its course.

The public seminar will be held from 6 to 8pm on the 17th of this month at the FNU Campus in Nasinu.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has stressed to Fijivillage in an earlier interview that the military will ensure true democracy is in place before the 2014 elections.

He also stressed that a civilian government is in place to ensure that all the planned policies are implemented before the elections.
