The High Court Case to determine the legality or otherwise of the takeover of December 5th, 2006 will continue this morning.
Counsel for the ousted SDL members QC Nye Perram yesterday gave a brief summary of events from October 2006 leading up to the takeover of December 5th.
In the course of his summary Perram revealed Police Commissioner Commodore Esala Teleni, Interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry and each of the Interim Ministers will be brought in as witnesses.
Perram then added to merely state the takeover was done out of necessity and was legal is a silly and juvenile proposition saying that Laisenia Qarase was the Prime Minister and he is the Prime Minister now! He added that what needs to be said is that what happened was a military coup.
Meanwhile, Lead Counsel for Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama and others Queen's Counsel Gerard McCoy is expected to be present in court today whose absence for the past two days due to other legal commitments in Hong Kong was deemed a further delay by QC Perram who reiterated the case proper needed to begin. Counsels for the ousted SDL ministers and the interim government are expected to have met after yesterday afternoon case to discuss the issues that need to be addressed in order during the course of the trial.
