From playing football throughout his school years to only taking up rugby at 19, Kavekini Karl Boselawa’s journey to becoming a Senior Development Player has been driven by faith, perseverance and the unwavering support of his family, especially his father.

Boselawa says rugby was not always the path he thought he would take, as he played football throughout primary and high school and only played touch rugby with the boys in his village during school holidays.

It was not until he was 19 and studying at university that he played rugby for the first time.

Boselawa attended Nadrala Sangam, Sigatoka Methodist and later spent three years at Fiji National University.

He says completing his education was important to him, and he finished university before deciding to seriously pursue rugby.

That decision has now paid off, with Boselawa saying receiving his official offer to become a Senior Development Player was an emotional moment that initially left him in disbelief.

He says the first thing that came to mind when he received the news was, “What?!”, adding he was excited, happy and thankful to God for the opportunity.

Behind his journey has been the strong influence of his father, whom Boselawa calls his “Tou”.

Boselawa says his father has had the biggest influence on him, both as a man and throughout his rugby journey.

He also says his father is a former rugby player who played centre, fullback and wing, the same positions Boselawa plays, and has been able to share his rugby experience and guidance with his son.

Boselawa says one of the biggest lessons his father has taught him is the importance of putting God first in everything he does and trusting that everything else will follow.

His father says the family is extremely proud of Kave and thanked him, his mother and their entire family for helping him reach the milestone.

He says it was also a special moment for the family to have the Drua visit their home as Boselawa begins the next chapter of his rugby journey.

He says they give all the glory to God for the opportunity and milestone.
