Potter backs Fiji Bati to bounce back against New Zealand despite 36-22 loss to Australia
Following the Vodafone Fiji Bati's first loss in the 2026 Rugby League World Cup, coach Mick Potter is confident that they can still reach the semi-finals.

The Bati went down 36-22 to the Kangaroos in last night's Round 2 match.

Castleford Tigers player Semi Valemei scored a hat-trick, but it was not enough to secure the win.

It was a tough match as the Australians struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, with just two points separating the teams at half-time.

However, the Australians found their rhythm in the second half, with Tom Trbojevic scoring a hat-trick.

Potter highlighted during the post-match press conference that the boys played great rugby, and taking on New Zealand will be a massive challenge for them, but they will be ready.

The Bati's World Cup campaign stands at one win and one loss, and they will need to beat New Zealand to seal their place in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, the Vodafone Fiji Bulikula thrashed the PNG Orchids 40-4 in their second match.

This Saturday, the Bulikula will take on France at 2.20pm, while the Bati will meet New Zealand at 4.30pm.
