The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team will need to improve their discipline and defence if they hope to finish strong at the final tournament of the World Rugby Sevens Championship in France.

Fiji topped its pool after going undefeated in the group stages, but ill-discipline proved costly in their quarter-final defeat to South Africa.

Fiji led 12-0 before a yellow card to Vuiviwa Naduvalo shifted the momentum in favour of the Blitzboks. South Africa capitalised on the numerical advantage, scoring a try to reduce the deficit to 12-7 at halftime.

Fiji will now face the United States in the fifth-place playoff.

The USA topped their pool after defeating Australia, Spain and Uruguay, and will be highly motivated as the result could determine their qualification for the new World Sevens Series competition, which begins later this year.

Fiji currently sits fourth on the standings with 26 points, while the USA is second from bottom with five points.

The two sides will meet at 1.06am tomorrow.

Meanwhile, France will take on South Africa in the first Cup semi-final at 11.14pm tonight, while New Zealand will face Spain in the second semi-final at 11.36pm.

The men's Cup final is scheduled for 3.41am tomorrow.
