Several athletes, including competitors from Uganda and Pakistan, have gone missing after competing at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, failing to return home with their respective teams.

Police Scotland confirmed it had received reports of a number of athletes being "unaccounted for" following the conclusion of the Games on Sunday.

Ugandan sports website NBS Sport reported that four members of the country's boxing team did not board their scheduled flight home.

A team member reportedly told the website that the athletes planned to apply for asylum in Scotland.

Meanwhile, Pakistan reported that boxer Qudratullah also failed to return home with his teammates.

Officials searching his room reportedly found that he was no longer there.

The issue follows similar incidents at previous Commonwealth Games.

After the 2014 Glasgow Games, several dozen athletes disappeared following the event, with some later seeking asylum while others vanished without explanation.
