18-year-old Mosese Koroitunidau delivered a strong performance during the Queen Victoria School inter-house athletics competition held at the HFC Bank Stadium with an impressive 14.33 meter in triple jump.

Tovata House is currently leading with 11 gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze medals, bringing their total to 35 medals.

Rewa House follows in second place with 31 medals, while Verata House sits in third with 20 medals. Bau House is currently in fourth place with 19 medals.

Representing Tovata House, Koroitunidau competed in the Senior Boys Long Jump and also took part in the 4x400 metres relay.

Koroitunidau steadily improved throughout the event, recording 12.90 metres in his first attempt, followed by 12.99 metres, 13.16 metres, 13.16 metres, 13.34 metres, and 13.44 metres, before producing his best jump of 14.33 metres on his seventh attempt.

The 18-year-old says the competition came after six weeks of preparation, adding that it was not easy competing against some of the school’s top jumpers while also adjusting to the heat and track conditions.

Koroitunidau explains that athletes usually train on grass at school, so it took some time to adapt to the stadium track and environment.

Looking ahead, he says his goal this year is to represent QVS proudly and win a medal at the Coca-Cola Games.

Koroitunidau dedicated his achievement to God, his parents, and teachers.

The competition continues as houses aim to add more medals before the final results are confirmed.
