Taufiq Ahmed, originally from Bau Road in Nausori and now based in Brisbane, Australia, made a memorable return to Fiji to compete in the Muslim IDC 2026 tournament, leading the North East Masters team to victory in the Masters Division.

Ahmed says his return to the tournament after 23 years was both emotional and rewarding.

He says in 2003 he represented Rewa Muslim and won the title.

He says that coming back to participate was a privilege for him and gave him the opportunity to reunite with his friends.

In an interview with fijivillage News, Ahmed says their success came through hard work and determination.

He was also awarded the Golden Boot and was named Player of the Tournament.

He is inspired by his uncle, Abdul Mannan, who is a former Rewa and Nasinu representative.

The 42-year-old encourages everyone to stay fit and enjoy football as a sport.
