Referees in Fiji are set to receive opportunities to officiate in Super Rugby matches, with discussions currently underway to finalise their inclusion within the competition’s officiating structure.

This was shared by International Referee Rasta Rasivhenge, who was the chief guest at the Fiji Rugby Union Referees Awards Night held at the Vodafone Arena last night.

Rasivhenge is a South African rugby union referee and a member of the South African Rugby Union Premier Panel.

He was also appointed to referee the final of the rugby sevens tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

He says Drua CEO Mark Evans is in talks with Super Rugby management to allow Fiji referees to officiate in the competition.

Rasivhenge praised the standard of refereeing in Fiji, crediting the Fiji Rugby Union and other stakeholders for their continued support and development of local officials.

He also encouraged youths and current players who are interested in rugby officiating to pursue refereeing with passion, noting that exposure to higher-level tournaments plays a key role in improving skills.

Rasivhenge will remain in the country for the McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s, which is scheduled to take place next month in Sigatoka.
