Cody Rhodes has retained the undisputed WWE Championship after defeating Randy Orton in a dramatic and chaotic main event at WrestleMania 42 on Saturday.
The match was thrown into early controversy when Orton’s new manager, Pat McAfee, attacked Rhodes before the opening bell.
Rhodes quickly responded, taking out McAfee before the match officially began.
Rhodes dominated much of the contest, even opening a cut on Orton’s forehead during a brutal exchange.
Both men later executed each other’s finishing moves, as the intensity escalated.
The bout took another turn when Orton, momentarily blinded, accidentally struck the referee with an RKO.
McAfee then returned wearing a neck brace and referee shirt, attempting a quick count in Orton’s favour, but Rhodes managed to kick out.
With momentum shifting, Orton attacked McAfee in frustration, allowing Rhodes to capitalise and deliver a decisive Cross Rhodes for the victory as the official referee recovered.
However, the drama continued after the bell, as Orton launched a post-match assault on Rhodes, striking him with the championship belt before delivering a dangerous Punt Kick.
In other action, Paige made a surprise return to the ring after eight years, teaming up with Brie Bella to capture the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.
