Rakesa claims silver with personal best throw in Men’s Ambulant Javelin
Iosefa Rakesa won Team Fiji's first medal at the Oceania Athletics Championships 2026 in Darwin, Australia, after claiming silver in the men's ambulant javelin with a personal best throw of 27.81 metres.

The silver medal marks his first podium finish at the Darwin Games, adding to his impressive achievements after winning gold at the 2022 North Marianas Pacific Mini Games.

He also claimed gold in the Shot Put event during the same competition.

Meanwhile, Sera Nasilivata finished fifth in the Women's 100 metres U18 with a time of 12.13 seconds.

She had clocked her fastest time of 12.04 seconds at the 2026 Athletics Fiji Competition in early April.

Australia's Matilda Harrison won gold with a time of 11.82 seconds, Leah Berry, also from Australia got silver with 11.83 seconds, while Madison Earley of New Zealand clocked 11.99 seconds to win bronze.

Jeremiah Rogo clocked a time of 47.84 seconds in his 400 metres heats, finishing third and qualifying for the finals.


Loata Lewageena finished sixth in the Open Women's Javelin finals with a throw of 42.92 metres. 

Frederico Miller jumped a distance of 6.55 metres in the Open Men's Long Jump finals to place sixth, while Waisiki Komainaqoro finished in tenth place with a jump of 6.36 metres.

In the U18 Shot Put finals, Setareki Dawai threw a distance of 17.10 metres to secure fourth place, while David Savea finished in 11th place with a throw of 13.32 metres.

Jimi Onitoro finished fifth in the Ambulant Men's Long Jump with a distance of 4.93 metres, while also placing 8th in the Ambulant Men's 100 metres with a time of 12.91 seconds.

Today's events will begin at 3.20pm.

The races today will include the men's and women's 3,000 metres Masters, the men's and women's 400 metres U18 heats, the men's and women's 200 metres para-athlete ambulant heats, the men's and women's 100 metres Masters, the men's 100 metres Senior heats, the men's and women's 200 metres para-athlete ambulant finals, the men's and women's 400 metres U18 finals, the men's and women's 400 metres senior finals, the women's 100 metres Senior heats, the men's and women's 1,500 metres U18, the men's and women's 4x100 metres relay U18, the men's and women's 1,500 metres seniors and the women's 100 metres senior final.
