More than 2,500 athletes from 155 schools across the country will be taking part in the three-day Coca-Cola Games that kick off today at the HFC Bank Stadium.
Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association Secretary and Competition Director, Biu Colati, says they are ready to host the Coca-Cola Games and assures everyone that the safety of both spectators and athletes is paramount.
He also assures parents and guardians that their children’s safety is in good hands.
Speaking on security at the Games, Divisional Police Commander Southern, Superintendent of Police Luke Cerenasiga, says they have increased their numbers from 150 to 200 officers.
He highlighted that these officers will provide security at the games and also around the capital city, including managing crowds after the games.
SP Cerenasiga says their teams will also be conducting checks at the entry points at the stadium, and they have also included vehicle checks.
Meanwhile, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Fiji representative Lawrence Tikaram has urged the public to use social media wisely when expressing their opinions.
He says social media plays a major part in the Games, and people should be mindful of what they say online because the focus of the Games remains on the athletes.
