Fiji Bulikula fall 18-12 to three-time world champions Kiwi Ferns

The Vodafone Fiji Bulikula have gone down 18-12 to three time world champions New Zealand in their first ever Rugby League World Cup match.

They were able to run in two converted tries to Losana Lutu and Sienna Laing in the first half.

The Kiwi Ferns scored through Leaianne Tufuga, a double from Stacey Waaka and the other points from Zahara Temara's boot with the conversions and penalties.

Skipper Sereana Naitokatoka says the girls worked hard for their people, Vanua, and their families.

Naitokatoka says she is really proud of her team adding that where there is unity God commands his blessings.

The Bulikula did not go out there to play a fancy game but just stuck to the basics and almost rocked the Kiwi Ferns.

They led 12-10 at the break.

The Bulikula are only the second team to lead the Kiwi Ferns at halftime.

Right now they have a few injury worries in the squad which they will need to look at before their next game.

The Bulikula will face the PNG Orchids next Saturday at 3.15pm at Santos National Football Stadium, Port Moresby.
