Jackson praises Drua’s defensive grit after win over Highlanders

Swire Shipping Fijian Drua Head Coach, Glen Jackson has commended his side’s resilience following their 24–14 win over the Highlanders at 4R Stadium in Ba yesterday.

Speaking after the match, Jackson says the victory was well-earned after an intense run of fixtures, noting the players deserved the opportunity to enjoy the result before turning their attention to recovery during the bye week.

Despite the win, Jackson admits the performance was far from perfect, highlighting areas where the team struggled, particularly with discipline and decision-making.

Jackson, however, reserved special praise for his team’s defensive effort, especially under pressure near their own try line.

Trailing by two points at half-time, Jackson said the message in the sheds was simple, return to basics and remain composed.

While pleased with the result, Jackson expressed disappointment at narrowly missing out on a bonus point, describing it as “unfortunate” in what was otherwise a strong outing.

The coach also acknowledged the electric atmosphere, praising supporters for their role in lifting the team.

The Drua are on a bye next week and will host the Waratahs at HFC Bank Stadium on the 16th of this month.
