Hong Kong 7s: Fiji goes down fighting 17-24 to Argentina

The Fiji Airways Men's National 7s team has gone down fighting 17-24 to Argentina in the last quarterfinal at the Hong Kong 7s.

Indiscipline cost the Fiji side the game, after Jeremaia Sauturaga was shown a yellow card in the third minute, which Argentina capitalised on, going on to score two tries.

They scored three tries through Apete Narogo, Joseva Talacolo, and Vuiviawa Naduvalo.

Argentina's tries came from doubles to Santiago Alvarez and Marcos Moneta.

Argentina led 17-7 at halftime.

The red card shown to Akuila Dranivotua in the second half really hurt the side as they struggled to defend with six players in the final two minutes.

They will now play Australia for 5th place at 7.18pm.

The Fiji team had won all their pool games, thumping Germany 42-5, beating Great Britain 24-10, before edging out France 26-24.

In other quarterfinals, New Zealand beat France 19-10, South Africa edged Kenya 26-22, while Spain defeated Australia 19-5.

The Cup semifinals are at 6 tonight, with New Zealand taking on South Africa while Argentina plays Spain at 6.23pm.

The Cup final is at 11.14pm.
