The Fiji Airways Men's National 7s team will be aiming for a strong start at the Hong Kong Sevens this weekend, as the stakes remain high in the HSBC SVNS World Series, with the bottom four teams facing relegation ahead of the 2026/2027 season.

Head coach Osea Kolinisau says a strong performance in Hong Kong is crucial, as it will help lay the foundation for the team’s campaign moving forward.

Kolinisau adds that Fiji’s proud history in Hong Kong gives the team added motivation, and believes the players are well prepared for the challenge ahead.

He says the squad has reflected on lessons learned after finishing runners-up in the 2025/2026 World Series, and are now ready to step up on the big stage.

Fiji boasts an impressive record in Hong Kong, having won a tournament-leading 19 titles since the competition began in 1976. Their last victory came in 2019, which capped a dominant five-year winning streak.

The Fiji men’s side opens its campaign against Germany at 5:11pm today, followed by matches against Great Britain at 8:21pm, and France at 4:13pm tomorrow.

The Cup quarter-finals will kick off at 10:03pm tomorrow, with the semi-finals set for 6pm Sunday, and the final scheduled for 11:14pm Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Fijiana 7s team will begin their campaign against Japan at 8:44pm today. They will then face Brazil at 12:01am tomorrow, before taking on New Zealand at 5:01pm tomorrow in their final pool match.

The women’s Cup quarter-finals begin at 9:13pm tomorrow, followed by the semi-finals at 5:14pm Sunday, and the final at 10:35pm Sunday.
