Bula FC are just three matches away from a historic semi-final spot as they open their OFC Pro League Leaders Group campaign in Auckland today.
With the competition reset and only three matches to decide semi-final qualification, the Fijian side enters this phase with renewed belief after a strong finish to the regular season.
Today’s clash against South Island United presents an immediate opportunity to make a statement.
Head coach Stephane Auvray says his players understand the magnitude of the moment.
Auvray says the team is happy to be in the top three, but now it is a new competition.
Despite the pressure, Auvray believes his squad is embracing the challenge.
He says it is an opportunity for the players — one more chance to gain experience and move into the play-off positions.
Bula FC will take on South Island United FC at 3pm at GO Media Stadium.
They will then face Auckland FC at 2.30pm on Saturday before playing against South Melbourne FC at 3pm next Tuesday. Both matches will be held at Eden Park.
The teams that finish in the top three will qualify for the semi-finals, while the fourth-placed team will play against the winner of the Challengers Group, where the bottom four teams have competed against each other.
The semi-finals will be held on 20th May at the GO Media Stadium, and the final will be played on 24th May at Eden Park.
The OFC Pro League will also determine who represents Oceania at the annual FIFA Intercontinental Cup™ and the quadrennial FIFA Club World Cup™.
