After losing to Fiji in the Wellington 7s quarterfinals New Zealand co‑coach Scott Waldrom says home advantage does not help if none of the home fans show up.
Waldrom says it definitely did not feel like hometown support over the weekend as there were far more Fijian supporters and flags.
He says Fiji had an awesome support crowd and it was disappointing that the New Zealand 7s team did not have that support.
Samoa 7s coach Sir Gordon Tietjiens says the Wellingtons 7s seemed like a ghost town and it is terrible.
Wellington 7s organiser Steve Dunbar says about 10,000 people went on Saturday.
Sunday was even worse with officials saying it was about the same size as day one.
