Fiji Airways Drua captain John Stewart says they will make the most of the opportunity to showcase themselves to the rugby world when they take on Brisbane City in their opening match of Australia’s National Rugby Championship this afternoon.
The Drua's NRC arrival presents a chance for Fiji's best local talent to catch the eye of Super Rugby or European clubs.
Stewart played for Japanese Super Rugby outfit Sunwolves last season but is off contract for 2018 and like his teammates knows what is at stake.
He says they are all local boys who have come from the island and are policeman, firemen, army officers.
Stewart says they are not there just to make up the numbers.
Coach Senirusi Seruvakula says they have done their homework and are ready for today's first match in the Australian National Rugby Championship.
All of the players are locally based, including seven who have already played test rugby for the Flying Fijians.
Samu Kerevi and Quade Cooper will start for Brisbane City.
Taqele Naiyaravoro will start on the left wing for Greater Sydney Rams, Eto Nabuli will start on the left wing for Queensland Country, Isi Naisarani will start at number 8 for Perth Spirit while Marika Koroibete will start on the right wing for Melbourne Rising.
The Fiji Airways Drua will meet Brisbane City at 5 this afternoon in Ballymore.
