The Wallabies have suffered a heartbreaking 28–26 loss to Argentina in Sydney last night, narrowly missing out on a second-straight comeback win in the Rugby Championship.
Playing in front of a record crowd of 41,912, the Wallabies were punished for poor discipline, conceding 14 penalties, with Argentina's Santiago Carreras slotting seven penalty goals to put the visitors ahead 28–7.
Despite the deficit, Australia launched a spirited comeback late in the match after Carreras was yellow-carded with 15 minutes remaining.
Tries from Andrew Kellaway and Filipo Daugunu, who bagged a double, brought the Wallabies back within two points.
Daugunu’s second try came from a controversial forward pass by Kellaway, but with time running out, a final penalty against the Wallabies sealed their fate.
The Wallabies had earlier taken the lead through a powerful try from Joseph-Aukuso Sua’ali’i, his fourth of the tournament, making him the top try scorer in the Championship.
But unforced errors and a costly charge-down try conceded to Argentina’s Julian Montoya set the tone for a frustrating afternoon.
Fly-half Tane Edmid struggled under pressure and was substituted before the hour mark in his fourth appearance of 2025. The result leaves both sides with two wins from four matches in the Rugby Championship, with Australia now turning their focus to two crucial Bledisloe Cup clashes against New Zealand, who themselves were thrashed 43–10 by South Africa in Wellington on Saturday night. Meanwhile, Argentina will meet South Africa on the 5th of next month at 1am at Allianz Stadium.
