Vunimono High School has claimed the Boys Under-17 title in the Rewa Secondary Schools Football Association competition after a dominant 3-0 win over Nakasi High School.

All three goals came in the first half, with National Under-17 and Suva district rep Rishal Shankar netting a sensational hat-trick to seal the result before the break.

Nakasi High struggled to find their footing throughout the match, as Vunimono maintained composure and defensive discipline in the second half to seal the win and the championship.

Shankar’s dominant performance earned him both the Golden Boot award and the Best Player of the Final title.

The 17-year-old says the team has worked hard and is pleased with the win.

He adds that they aim to win the Southern Zone Secondary School Soccer tournament, which will be held next week, and qualify for the Fiji Secondary Schools IDC.

Vunimono High School coach, Sahil Chandra says he is overwhelmed with the win.

He says the players gave their best throughout the tournament, and he was proud to see their training efforts reflected on the field.

Captain of Vunimono High School, Avishaan Chand, who was awarded Player of the Tournament, shared similar sentiments, saying the team has faced tough competition throughout the tournament and their efforts have been rewarded today.
