Elenoa Vateitei is now ranked third in the world after winning a bronze medal at the International Va'a Federation World Distance Championships in Samoa.

Fiji Outrigger Secretary Kimberly Samson says she won the first medal for Fiji in the Championship while Pierre Guyot won a silver medal in the Masters 60 Men V1 event.

She says Vateitei also took part in the Mini Pacific Games last year and won a silver and a bronze medal.

She says Fiji’s top 7 athletes took part in the championship which provided exposure for the team.

Samson says the championship also served as a preparation for the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands in November.

Fiji Outrigger says their competition continues next month following which a 26 member team for the Pacific Games will be selected.

The team returned from Samoa last night.
