Touch Rugby needs $93,000 for Touch Rugby World Cup in England

The Fiji Touch Rugby will need $93,000 to take eight teams to the Touch Rugby World Cup in Nottingham, England, from the 15th to the 21st of July.

Fiji Men’s Open Touch Rugby coach Charles Cleary says the Government has provided them support through the grant they received from the Sports Commission, but it’s not enough to get the team to England.

He says they have started fundraising so the players can showcase their talent on the world stage.

Cleary says they understand Touch Rugby is a minor sport in the country, however, some prominent rugby 15s players have represented the nation on the world stage, including Suva Rugby captain Enele Malele, who was part of the team that won gold in the 2007 South Pacific Games.

He adds the boys have been preparing well for the tournament in England, and most of their players are young individuals, with two still in secondary school.

Cleary is urging companies and individuals to support them in ensuring our young talented players showcase their talent at the Touch Rugby World Cup in England in July.

If you are willing to assist the Touch Rugby team, you can send in your donation to their BSP account. BSP account name: Touch Rugby World Cup campaign BSP account number: 86275090
