The 2016 Oceania 7s kicks off this morning with thrilling and high class rugby expected from the Men’s and Women’s Olympic Gold Medalists.
With both the Men’s and Women’s Sevens World champions to participate in this tournament, World Rugby will also be keeping a closer look on the crowd and how the locals react to the two day event at the ANZ Stadium.
Oceania Rugby Tournament Director Wayne Schuster believes Fiji is closing in on hosting an international event with all its facilities but this will be all up to World Rugby.
Ten teams will compete in the men’s competition while seven countries will compete in the women’s category.
The tournament will also serve as a qualifier for non‑core HSBC 7's men’s teams into the Wellington, Sydney and Hong Kong legs of the 2017 World Series.
The Fiji Men’s team will play their first game against American Samoa at 12.06pm today, they will take on PNG at 2.12pm, Fiji will then face Nauru at 4.39pm before facing Tonga at 7.27 tonight.
