Team Fiji's Waisake Tewa clocked a seasonal best in the 100-metre preliminary race at the Paris Olympics last night with a time of 10.73 seconds.

Tewa ran in heat 6 and came 6th.

Tewa says he was happy to have made it to the Olympics but knew he could have done better.

The 20-year-old is determined to continue improving his times from here on out.

Meanwhile, 14-year-old Anahira McCutchen came in 5th place in the Women’s 50-metre freestyle heats.

She swam a time of 26.88 seconds.

McCutchen is the youngest athlete from Team Fiji and Oceania, and she now has her eyes set on building from this performance to qualify by merit for the LA 2028 Olympic Games.

China maintains their lead in the medal tally with 16 gold, 11 silver and 9 bronze, the USA is second with 12 gold, 23 silver and 20 bronze, while host France is third with 12 gold, 14 silver and 15 bronze.
