Fiji born Setareki Tamanivalu was in top form and scored three tries for the Crusaders but it was not enough as the Hurricanes overcame the Crusaders 33-27 in the Super Rugby pre-season clash last night.
The Hurricanes were in decent shape ahead of the defence of their Super Rugby title.
New Hurricane Jordie Barrett was one of the star attractions.
The only potential injury alarm was sounded by Hurricanes fullback Nehe Milner‑Skudder.
On at halftime, he lasted less than 20 minutes, wandering off after scoring a try.
Hurricanes head coach Chris Boyd say Skudder just got a little tweak in a lower hamstring when he scored the try and that Skudder will be fine.
Meanwhile, the Blues beat the Chiefs 26‑14 in the final preseason hit out at Auckland's Alexandra Park.
The 2017 Super Rugby season kicks off next Thursday at 8.45pm when the Rebels will take on the Blues.
