Suva Rugby showcased composure and class as they overcame Malolo 27-18 in a spirited Skipper Cup clash at the newly renamed Ratu Iliesa Neitauniyalo Sports Park on Mana Island.

The home side drew strong local support, with fans hopeful Malolo could pull off an upset against one of the tournament’s top contenders, and despite a valiant effort, the hosts fell short against a disciplined Suva side.

Suva Head Coach Solomoni Nute said the long journey was worth it, praising his side’s ability to stick to the game plan under pressure.

Nute says they knew Malolo would come out firing, but the boys trusted the process, believed in the system, and executed it well.

Suva halfback Terio Tamani also commended Malolo for a hard-fought match.

Tamani says it was a tough game from the first whistle.

He says they knew the ground was small, so they had to play smart, use the width, and exploit the flanks when Malolo left gaps on the short side, and they are happy to come out with a win.

Suva will now enjoy a two-week break before their next clash against Macuata, while Malolo prepares to face Lautoka in Round 4 of the Skipper Cup.

Meanwhile, Naitasiri will face Nadroga for the Farebrother Sullivan Trophy at Ratu Cakobau Park at 3pm.

In other Skipper Cup matches at 3pm today, Lautoka will take on Macuata, and Tailevu will meet Nadroga.
