World Sevens Series leaders South Africa are hoping to win their first ever Hong Kong 7s title this weekend.
Since the inception of the tournament in 1976, Fiji has won 16 times, New Zealand has lifted the trophy 11 times, Australia have won 5 times, England have 4, Samoa have 3 while Barbarian FC and Cantabrians have won once.
The task has been made harder for the Blitzbokz as they have lost their two key players Rosco Specman and Justin Geduld.
Olympic bronze medalist Tim Agaba makes a welcome return to the side while Selvyn Davids will make his debut.
Springbok Sevens coach Neil Powell says that a number of senior players managed to shake off niggling injuries and were available for selection at the Hong Kong Sevens, a tournament the South Africans have never won.
Branco du Preez, Cecil Afrika, Chris Dry and Ruhan Nel are the experienced players who have passed the fitness tests.
The Blitzboks is pooled with Kenya, France and Canada in Pool B.
Meanwhile Fiji will play their first game against Japan at 11.54pm Friday, they will take on Wales at 5.12pm Saturday before they play New Zealand in their final pool match at 9.12pm Saturday.
The quarterfinals will start at 2.58pm Sunday, the semifinals will start at 7.31pm Sunday while the Final will be held at 11pm Sunday.
