Sir Gordon Tietjens is in demand on the sevens circuit with conflicting reports linking him to national jobs with Kenya and Samoa.
The Daily Nation in Kenya said Tietjens would be their next coach with an announcement to be made later today after the deal was sealed earlier in the week.
But Radio New Zealand reported Tietjens had been in Samoa inspecting facilities where a deal there could also be announced on Friday.
Tietjens stepped aside from his long run at the helm of the New Zealand team after their failed Olympics campaign.
He had been linked to the Kenyan job soon after returning from the Rio Games.
A source told the Daily Nation that long discussions had finally been completed with one of Kenyan rugby's sponsors ready to back the move.
Former Kenya 15s and sevens skipper Innocent "Namcos" Simiyu would be named as Tietjens's deputy.
KRU chairman Richard Omwela wouldn't comment on the speculation.
Tietjens would be Kenya's third foreign coach in the last four years. England's Mike Friday handled the team for the 2012‑13 season with South African Paul Treu in charge for 2013‑14.
