Taekwondo enthusiasts have a reason to celebrate as the Shincheonji Church of Jesus plans to introduce Taekwondo programs in Fiji, following their team's impressive performance at a major international tournament in Korea.

The Shincheonji church says as they already have active branches in Fiji, they aim to create accessible pathways for Fijian athletes to train, grow and potentially represent their country on the world stage.

They say the inspiration for this initiative comes from the their Taekwondo team, which recently competed in the 2025 Park Jeong-hee Cup International Open Taekwondo Competition held recently in Sangju, Korea.

The church says that despite having limited preparation time, the 25-member team showcased outstanding skill and determination in the official poomsae individual event.

They achieved a remarkable feat winning 4 gold medals, 7 silver, and 14 bronze, with every athlete winning an award—an uncommon achievement for any team, especially one representing a church organization.

The event saw participation from over 4,200 athletes from 18 countries, including Korea, the US, and France.

The church says with events like sparring, poomsae, breaking, and kicking, the competition served as a global platform for excellence in Taekwondo.

They add for Fijian athletes and young martial arts enthusiasts, the church’s success is more than just a headline — it is a real opportunity.
