The Cronulla Sharks handed their grand‑rivals Melbourne Storm their first loss of the season with a gritty 11‑2 victory.
The Sharks entered the grand final rematch in unconvincing form after a fortunate 19‑18 win over the Newcastle Knights but provided their gutsiest performance of the season against the Storm who were yet to taste defeat.
In other matches over the weekend, the Dragons thumped the Sea Eagles 35-10, the Raiders beat the Titans 42-16, while the Tigers defeated the Cowboys 26-16 and the Warriors beat the Eels 22-10.
The Dragons currently lead the NRL points table with 10 points, with better points difference, the Storm in second place with 10 points and the Sharks are third with 8 points.
In big matches this weekend, the Knights will take on the Roosters at 7pm Saturday, while the Dragons will meet the Cowboys at 8.30pm Sunday.
