Super Rugby could be in line for another shake‑up come 2021, with the Sydney Morning Herald claiming that the Sunwolves could be on the chopping block.

As SANZAAR's governing nations think about the return to a 14‑team structure, Japan's Sunwolves may find themselves on shaky ground, potentially following the likes of the Cheetahs, Kings and Western Force to be scratched from the competition.

Coming into their fourth season of Super Rugby, the Sunwolves have won just six matches in their history, finishing the 2018 competition bottom of the collective standings.

TVNZ reports a return to a 14‑team competition would potentially allow for a round‑robin competition structure, as opposed to the controversial conference system currently in place, meaning that teams can go through the entire season without facing certain opposition.

Argentina's Jaguares are in no danger of losing their spot as a Super Rugby side, falling under the safety of SANZAAR membership.
