Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua Manager, Alisi Komaitai says rugby has allowed her to help out her family and provide for them whenever they have asked for something.
While speaking during a panel discussion organised by the Fijian Media Association's Women in Media, Komaitai says she is from the prominent island of Bau and started playing rugby from a young age.
She says she used to get punished for playing rugby as her traditional role on the island is to direct the people in a proper way.
Komaitai says she was told that it is a sport not for girls but for boys however, it did not deter her passion for rugby.
She says she tried her best to stick to education because her father always encouraged her to get an education and get church education but not rugby.
The Manager says she played her first official rugby game at tertiary level in 2005 when she played for USP against FIT.
She says she joined the Striders Women’s Rugby Club and went on to join the Suva Union Women’s and got to don the white jersey in 2018 as a 15s and 7s player in the development team's tour of Japan.
She says she never thought she would have a managerial position in her rugby career but was lucky that Striders taught her club management and she later got to manage the Suva provincial team last year that won the Marama Competition.
She says being the Manager of the Fijiana Drua is a huge challenge for her but she is thankful for Fiji Rugby Union development officers for believing in her.
