Paris Olympics: Young and McCutcheon secure spots in Team Fiji for swimming

Team Fiji swimmers, 19-year-old David Young and 15-year-old Anahira McCutcheon have confirmed their spots to compete at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France this month after achieving the highest World Aquatics Point score in their individual Olympic event.

Team Fiji Chef de Mission, Sale Sorovaki confirmed that Young and McCutcheon will be the only athletes competing in swimming for Fiji.

Young and McCutcheon are scheduled to depart Fiji with the team next Thursday for Divonne-les-Bains where Team Fiji will be hosted for a pre-training camp before their move to the game’s village on 18th July in Paris.

The sports that have travelled in the first wave include Rugby Men’s 7s who are training in Bordeaux and Taekwondo who are in South Korea before joining the rest of the team in Divonne-les-Bains on 19 July.

Sorovaki has confirmed that the sports Team Fiji will be competing in at the Olympics include Rugby 7s men’s and women’s, Sailing Men’s and Women’s, Taekwondo Women’s, Judo Men’s, Athletics Men’s, Table Tennis Women’s, Swimming Men’s and Women’s.

He says they are expecting everything, a very competitive game and are really appreciative of the support from Fijians across the country and around the world, and they are ready to represent Fiji in Paris.

Team Fiji will begin competitions at the Paris Olympics in the Men’s Rugby 7s on July 24.

Meanwhile, the 2024 Paris Olympics Games Opening Ceremony will be held Friday 26 July.
