The Vodafone Fiji Bati 9s rugby league side started their Pacific Games campaign on a high note after thrashing Tonga 20-0 in their first pool match but they went down 18-12 to Samoa in their second match.

Samoa scored the first try of the match to give them a 6-0 lead.

Fiji fought back with a try from Eremasi Batibasaga to close the score to 6-4.

Poseci Tuivanuavou went in for their second try before Samoa replied with a try of their own to lead at the break 12-8.

Josua Ratu scored Fiji’s third try in the second half but Samoa came back with a late try to snatch the win. Aminio Siga says they have a lot to learn and will work on these ahead of their remaining games today.

The Bati will meet Cook Islands at 8.10 tonight.

Meanwhile, the Vodafone Fiji Bulikula 9s side kicked off their Pacific Games campaign with a 22-10 win over Samoa, but the side went down to Tonga in their second game.

The Bulikula will take on Cook Islands in their third pool match at 4.50pm today before playing Solomon Islands at 7.45 tonight.
