For just the third time in history, a Sydney club will not contest the NRL grand final after the Cowboys put an end to the Roosters' campaign last night, winning their semifinal 29‑16.
Most people expected the Cowboys to be bundled out of the playoffs in the first week, but Paul Green's men are now 80 minutes away from their second premiership in three seasons following shock finals wins over the Sharks, Eels and Roosters.
The Cowboys are now within reach of pulling off arguably one of the greatest premiership stories next week, and Green was confident the side had one more effort in them.
The Cowboys will take on the Storm in the NRL grand final at 8.15pm Sunday.\
