All Blacks prop Charlie Faumuina says the new Super rugby format is unfair on New Zealand teams.

Under the new 15 team format, which comes into effect from next year, New Zealand teams will play each other twice ‑ home and away.

Faumuina says there will now be eight really tough games a year.

Meanwhile, Rugby Western Australia has begun legal action against the Australian Rugby Union as it begins the process to cut an Australian team in Super Rugby.

In a statement, Rugby Western Australia described their meeting with the Australian Rugby Union as "unsatisfactory".

Super Rugby's governing body SANZAAR said on Sunday that one Australian and two South African teams would be cut from the competition for 2018.

It is now up to the ARU to determine which Australian franchise would go ‑ Western Force and Melbourne Rebels are the two in the firing line.

This week, the Crusaders will face the Sunwolves at 7.35pm Friday.

On Saturday, the Reds will take on the Kings at 5.05pm, the Blues will face the Hurricanes at 7.35pm while the Rebels will take on the Brumbies at 9.45pm.

The Chiefs play the Cheetahs at 1.05am Sunday.
