More than 15 schools have pre-booked the use of the tracks at the Fiji Sports Council’s HFC Bank Stadium, starting from the fourth week of this month through to the fourth week of March.

Fiji Sports Council Chief Operations Officer, Ashni Sharma, says the Council is pleased to host Fiji schools’ athletics competitions this year at their flagship venue, HFC Bank Stadium.

She says schools that have pre-booked spots vary in capacity, with the majority of the competitions held from Monday through Friday.

Sharma adds the tracks, which were completely refurbished in 2013 as part of the Stadium Project then, has experienced national and regional competitions over the years, and while the tracks may require maintenance, it would involve an extensive engagement of resources.

She says the upgrades and renovations of Fiji Sports Council venues, which includes an overhaul of the running tracks at HFC Bank Stadium, were undertaken as part of the Council’s long-term capital project plans and is overdue for another replacement which, of course, is dependent on funding from Government, the owners of the FSC venues.

Sharma says that while the Council will continue to lobby towards a sustainable capital solution, the Council will continue to host athletics competitions, as well as, daily track training.
